Canine Programs

Exceptional Care Creates Exceptional Dogs

Liberty Service Dogs™ are supported by a dedicated team of trainers, veterinarians, and specialists who oversee their journey from day one.

Whether a dog is a purpose-bred puppy or selected from a shelter, they receive the same standard of care at every stage. Our Canine Programs team manages everything from intake and health screenings to daily training, behavioral assessments, and the intentional matching process that pairs each dog with a Veteran.

Shelter Dog Program

A Second Chance to Serve

Some of the best Veteran Service Dogs aren’t born into the role, but chosen. We partner with high-euthanasia shelters in California to find adult dogs with potential, then bring them to our campus for a two-week quarantine, thorough medical exams, and detailed behavioral assessments. Every dog that enters this program is given time and support to show us what they’re capable of.

Purpose-Bred Program

Where Puppies Find Purpose

Our purpose-bred Labrador and Golden Retriever puppies are raised by volunteers through community and prison-based programs across Nevada and Northern California. It takes each puppy about two years to grow into a Liberty Service Dog, starting with early socialization and foundational skills before moving into advanced training.

Veterinary Care

Top-Notch Care Right on Campus

A dog’s well-being is at the center of everything we do. Our on-campus veterinary clinic is staffed with a dedicated team and advanced technology, allowing us to provide full-spectrum medical care. For specialized needs, we also partner with local veterinary practices to ensure our dogs have access to the best care available.

Assessment & Matching

Preparing for the Right Partnership

Before a dog is ever matched with a Veteran, they go through months of evaluation and training. Dogs live on campus and receive four months of daily instruction covering advanced obedience, public access skills, and specialized tasks. After dedicated time to rest, our trainers determine the strongest Veteran pairing for each dog entering the Liberty Dogs Training & Placement Program.
